Abstract

The thesis aims to study the concept of conflict and the pattern of conflict management by peaceful means as found in the Tipitika and the Commentaries, to study the concept of conflict and the Buddhist Means for conflict management according to Phra Paisal Visalo, and to analytically study the using of Buddhist Means for conflict management applied to Thai societies. After studying , They are found that :

1. The two types of conflict are internal and external conflicts. The factors leading to the conflict are originated from the interaction of internal factors and external ones. The internal factors are the roots of unwholesome action and proliferational Dhamma. To manage the conflict, the Buddha proposed the Dhamma such as the doctrine forbearance, the principle of selflessness, the doctrine of welfare and the principle of doctrine harmony applied with the peaceful means consisting of negotiation, compromise, persuasion, avoiding and so on to produce the efficiency and effectiveness.

2. Phra Paisal Visalo manages the conflict by using the original Buddha Dhamma, the western peaceful theories and the concept of Engaged Buddhism with the belief that the world and the Dhamma can not be separated. So, working for societies is together with the practice of Dhamma. The peacefulness in the Ven.’s views is not only the peaceful society, the state of freedom from war and the conflict, but it must be the societies with the just structure of economics, societies and politics, just to help people in those societies to reach various resources equally and firmly both bodily and mentally.

3. The globalization and the consumerism are of the important part causing the country to develop without direction. On the other hand, it consists of the structure of various systems in the societies which is the unjustice to the people in every classes of the societies. These facts caused the conflict to arrive throughout every part of the country must be carefully done with loving kindness, mindfulness and wisdom. And it must be done with giving the disputants information and persuading them to understand and agree to participate the Buddhist means for conflict management in order to completely eliminate the roots of the problem.
